As I type this, I have a quart of Tulsi tea brewing. It’s 90 degrees outside right now, so it’s definitely getting dumped over ice when it’s done, but it smells amazing. I drink some kind of herbal tea pretty much every day. I’ve been enjoying tulsi and lemon balm most frequently lately, but I often have chamomile, rooibos, hibiscus, dandelion, anise hyssop and various mints. They’re always on hand, and always in full rotation.
We have (and love) a no-till garden. This means we do not disturb the soil by turning, tilling or double-digging. Each spring and fall we add some kind of organic matter on top of the soil, and then we walk away. By and large, this is not only the easiest approach, but it is more sustainable, and less damaging to our local environment. It builds top soil instead of destroying it. It improves existing soil composition (ours is almost entirely red clay). It makes weeding and watering more or less unnecessary. It’s a total win for us.
Unfortunately, this year we made a boo-boo.
So, we keep bees… something I have yet to talk about here. Truthfully, we haven’t been the most successful beekepers. Honestly, don’t ask me for beekeeping advice. We read all of the books, watched all of the videos… we got bubkes. (Side Note: My toddler is now jumping up and down screaming “BUBKES!” at the top of her lungs and laughing hysterically.)
So, I was going to write an update on the herb garden… but I just couldn’t do it. I owe it. I promised it. I didn’t have it in me. Instead, I’m going to tell you about the last few days of my life. Grab the popcorn.
I’ve always had a hard time with authority. I’ll freely admit it. I’m stubborn. I also have a hard time following a recipe… or directions of any kind, really. Throw some unnecessary complications at me, and I’ll blow my lid. I will go straight “ain’t nobody got time for that” right up in yo’ face. What can I say? God made me how he made me.
That’s why I struggle with the most popular advice on tincture making.
Hi friends! It’s high time for a new post. I went on a short vacation, and I was a Very Bad Blogger and didn’t get some posts done for you before I left… sorry about that. How about an update on the vegetable garden(s)?
